Ride On, My Child
I want to talk about a young artist who I met recently, Scotty Chapman, with a story similar to mine. He had come to an alike mindset that I had, which was that “Indiana is not going to take you anywhere, it’s all about being in the city, meeting people, and making connections”. Scotty moved to Nashville about a year ago when he realized the talent he had. He may miss college, but he “got to a point where he was ready, he has enough songs, and knew he could make a living”. When he did get here, he didn’t know anyone until his 4th night in Nashville. He stumbled upon a street artist named Liam, who was playing Hendrix on his guitar. He instantly knew that was going to be his friend, and through him he has met so many new people including his band mate, Dustin. Stories like these prove what Chapman said to be true: making a name for yourself is about meeting people and making connections. My favorite song on their new album, Catch Me If You Can, is Ride on, My Child. This song is a tribute to his mom saying, “thank you for supporting me my whole life, but I’m going to ride off and do my thing.” He goes on to say, “when I come back she’s always going to be there, and I’m not going to get lost in the hills”.
Thanks to Scotty for letting me interview, and write about him. Go check out his music on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1kjb8yOzZht2MlWtZfeft1?si=IdgBWA08TFqtcKfSiEKPxQ
